An Apology

I would like to say sorry to Mum and Dad for waking them so early every Christmas Day. Now that I am on the receiving end, I suddenly realise that waking them up at 5am wasn’t so much fun for them!

On the plus side, it was sooo cute to hear Jon’s excited sharp intake of breath when he opened each present that Santa got him!

Clothes

We spent this morning in Tesco picking up some jumpers and tops for Jon as he’s grown out of all his clothes. We managed to find some very nice jumpers for him this time and I’ll have to remember to take photos of him when he’s wearing them so that I can post them.

In other news, yesterday was a very social day as Nana and Sam came for the afternoon, Gill and Ben popped over with Christmas presents and then right at the end of the day, Meg and Scott turned up on their way back from Georgina’s Nana’s also to supply presents. I noticed that all these presents are for the boys though and not for me! That’s what happens when you have kids: you become incidental as everyone focuses on the little horrorsdarlings!

Nearly Christmas!

It’s finally dawned on me that it’s nearly Christmas! I’m not even slightly prepared yet. By that I mean that I’m not in the “Christmas spirit” if you see what I mean? Work is really busy at the moment and we have three deadlines next week and I’ve been concentrating on that more than thinking about what happens after next Tuesday.

Plans are in place though as we have a work Christmas lunch on Thursday and on Friday we are visiting Santa’s grotto with the kids. Fortunately, I have a wonderful wife whom has ensured that we have done our Christmas shopping and sent out Christmas cards etc. Otherwise, we’d be having fish ‘n’ chips for Christmas if I was in charge…

Catch up

It’s December already and I have no idea where the time is going this year… Jon’s a bit under the weather with a cold this weekend. he’s got a streaming cold and his eyes and nose are running. He’s cold two tissues and uses the one in his left pocket for his nose and the one in his right pocket for his eyes. He’s quite meticulous in ensuring that he doesn’t use the “wrong” one so with any luck, he won’t get an eye infection this time!

Ben’s quite cheerful today and enjoying playing with the recently finished carboard tubes from the Christmas wrapping paper.

Party and a Christening

Georgina was ill, so I took Ben and Jon up to Jenni and Tim’s for Jack’s 4th birthday party yesterday and Ross’s Christening today. It was a good weekend, however both Ben and Jon missed their mummy and were very insecure.

Weekend

I’ve just realised that I forgot to provide an update on last weekend!

Well…

Georgina and I went to Blackpool for the weekend to meet up with friends we met via BritLore. Basically the plan was to go to a hotel and spend all weekend chatting and drinking and that’s exactly what happened! We had a great time meeting up again with old friends and making new ones. BritLore is over 5 years old now… it’s weird to think that some of the longest friends we know in “Real Life” we first met over the Internet.

Lest you worry, we left Jon and ben in the capable hands of my Mum and Dad and they had a great time!

Oops

Texas appears to have just outlawed marriage…

HJR 6, an ammendment to the Texas constitution contains this:

Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of
the union of one man and one woman.
(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may
not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to
marriage.

Now..
(a) clearly defines “marriage” to be the union of one man and one woman.
(b) states that the state may not create any legal status identical to marriage

I’m nearly sure that’s not the intention, but that’s what it says!

(I wish I’d worked this out on my own, but I got it from here.)

Edit:
Having talked to my friend about this, she reckons that as marriage cannot be identical to itself this is legalese for saying that the state cannot create a legal status identical to but not including marriage. I think all lawyers should be shot :)

Sleeze

Seems that the current Government is no better than the end times of the last one after all.

I dunno why Tony Blair bothered with implementing the Ministerial code as it has no use. David Blunkett has acknowledged that he broke it, and our Tony has said “never mind, let’s ignore what I said before”. As usual, the politicians look after their own at the expense of public perception of the political process. It won’t be long before politicians replace estate agents at the bottom of the public trust tree.

*sigh*

Trip

I took Ben and Jon down to Enfield, whilst Georgina stayed at home to try and get over the bug that Ben kindly gave her.

We met up with Mum & Dad, and also Jen, Tim and the kids at a place called the Antiques Village. It was holding a special Halloween weekend and had done up the place with various tombstones and manequins dressed as eerie characters. There was a few fairground rides aimed at the under 7s and a “haunted” train ride through the woods. It was all really done well. We had lunch there and then Jen & Tim left for the long drive home.

Jon, Ben and I then went back to Mum & Dad’s where I fixed a couple of issues with Mum’s computers whilst Jon had fun with Dad’s railway. He’s getting quite good at operating the controller at speeds other than “full” which is nice!
